Career paths in the technology industry.

By Posted on 0 2 m read 23 views

Technology is the new rave. We have seen the world evolve from what it used to be to what it is now; the smartphones, data bundles, your worktop/ laptop, LED TVs and the list is endless. Now down to the technology industry, everyone you meet especially the younger generation seems to find themselves in the technology space right?

According to African Business magazine; “the countryโ€™s economic re-basing in 2014 demonstrated how far the technology industry has come. Driven by the rise of ICT and telecom, the new baseline for the economy showed that the service sector was 240% larger than under the previous estimates.

The sheer numbers are incredible: Penetration of cellphones in Nigeria is 68% and around a quarter of Nigerians have a smartphone. There are nearly 130 million active mobile connections in the country, up from less than 90 million in 2010 and only a handful at the start of the millennium.

With a growing, urbanizing population of nearly 170 million people and GDP growth predicted at more than 6.5% per annum for the next four years, the potential commercial opportunity is huge, particularly considering the current gaps in the market”. Now you know why the technology industry is the new oil and gas industry.

Interestingly, most people have the notion that anyone in the technology industry is a technical person, a programmer, software manager, database administrator and the list is endless. Its true that this set of people mentioned above makeup the technology industry but tell you what, there is more to it. The industry is not limited to these few professionals alone. There are a whole lot of interesting careers in the technology industry that improves self discovery, self innovation, creativity, self expression and turning your passion/ hobby into a money making venture ๐Ÿ™‚ . You heard me right. I have found my self in this industry *grinning* and I am more than excited to share my career path with you.

People inspired to be part of the Internet revolution are rarely properly mentored, to make the right decisions with their careers….we need more mentors and willing men-tees…

Sure….responsibility lies on two shoulders ….The mentors responsibility to create the platforms to equip the people….and men tee’s responsibility is submitting themselves to be trained.
