Deep conditioning is one of the most essential treatment you must give to your natural hair if you want an overall improvement on your hair moisture, elasticity, colour and growth in the long run. I started deep conditioning my hair the day I decided to transition and I must say the result has been fantastic.
I mainly deep condition my hair using protein treatment in two ways depending on how lazy I am (I am a lazy naturalista) . Either by making my deep conditioning treatment at home or buying a deep conditioning treatment usually in a one use pack from the local drug store (Walmart).
Homemade deep conditioning treatment
For my made at home treatment I use the following:
- Organics Hair Mayonnaise
- Olive oil ORS Replenishing Conditioner
- Sofnfree GroHealthy milk protein and olive oil
And the mixture looks similar to this.
The drug store deep conditioning protein pack
I apply the mixture on my hair and massage it into my hair ends and root. N.B: The eggs makes the home made deep conditioning mixture watery and it keeps dripping; you can either squeeze out the excess before putting on the plastic cap or tie a socks round your edges.
What is a deep condition without heat? A heat cap is good but I don’t want to use heat on my hair so I just wrap my head up with a thick towel and let the mixture sit in for 30-45 minutes.
Make sure to rinse out the mixture properly and use a leave in detangler to remove the egg smell. But if you are unable to get the egg smell out, in some days the smell will fade away.
What my hair looked like after the deep conditioning
